A friend of mine mentioned that he went to services during Ranger training because it was a sanctioned break. I guess some hymns are better than ethics training.

Had Rome on my mind a lot lately. Listening to "The History of Rome" podcast. Google it. Good stuff.

Wonder what a new recruit to the Roman army might have sensed and experienced...what would be different and what would be similar. Likewise, a fresh working class recruit to Her Majesty's military in the 19th century.

Well written, inventive and evocative as always, sir.

Ah yes, the DFAC roaches... bigger than the ones featured on "Joe's Apartment" turn on the lights and watch them scatter. I'd never seen anything like it in my life... then, you just get used to them.

I think your point regarding deprivation is sound, I'd take it further. Satiation has its role, but it is not good for a man to keep himself too content, and too satiated, for too long.

I suspect that it's unnatural and removes his edge. Sometimes a man has to remove his edge, because rising tension simply plays with one's head, and becomes very distracting, and annoying.

I think there's a drop in serum testosterone after firing your gun solo. This doesn't occur in other contexts of, well, gun firing. It is almost as if the body knows the difference between being by oneself, and being with a woman. It is counter intuitive but I do think there is research on this.

My rule of thumb is that it's always good for a man to be a little hungry, in all ways. Satiation while comfortable can lessen a man's willingness to take risks.
